when opening visio, series of dialogs about exe's (professional 2003)

This started when I was opening a visio file received as an attachment. A dialog box asking me about macros appeared. But rather than referring to macros in the attachment, it was about macros in a .exe file in the folder that was set (in Visio Tools|Options) as the file path for startup and for drawings. Each time I clicked OK, or just closed a dialog box, another dialog opened. They said, "C:folderfolderfilename.exe contains macros... etc" A box opened for every exe in the folder. While clicking on these boxes, I noticed that Acrobat was starting to install (the executable file for an old version of acrobat was in a backup folder).

When all the messages were gone, Visio worked fine. After that, each time I opened Visio, the same thing repeated. Today, I changed the file path settings for startup and for drawings, in visio. I pointed them to an empty folder. No more series of dialogs. But why did this happen? Is it a Viso bug? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Re: when opening visio, series of dialogs about ex

I have never tried this but I would think that it is expected behaviour. Visio should be attempting to open any files in the startup directory because that is what the startup directory is for.

I would expect that the path for Drawings would not cause the problem - that is just the default path for opening and saving files (as far as I know).
