    Cannot attach attachments (Outlook 2003)

    Hey Gang,

I recenty had a registry failure in my laptop so I had to reinstall Windows XP along with Office 2003. Now when I try to attach anything to an email I get this error message:
Can't create file: right click on the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shirtcut menu to check your permissions on the folder.

I have no clue what this file or folder is as I am not trying to create the file I am trying to insert it. I am sure it is a temp file it is referring to but I am not sure where it is.

    Any help?

That's strange. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> Can you tell whether the error refers to a folder in Outlook (or on an Exchange Server) versus a folder in the Windows file system?

Regarding the file system, for attachments on incoming messages, when you launch them, they are written to a sub-folder inside the MS Internet Explorer Temporarily Internet Files folder (or thereabouts). If you launch a Word .doc attachment and then immediately look at the location (File>Properties, General tab), you can see where these files are. Actually there might be more than one location. Anyway, if you can open attachments, you probably have the privileges you need for normal attachment-related operations. It is possible that an add-ins or macros is overriding your normal Insert>File command, but that's difficult to assess from here.

Regarding Outlook folders, are you a delegate or is this your own mailbox?

Your reinstall should have reinstated the registry location for where Outlook stores attachments on a temporary basis, but just in case, check that the Outlook 2003 Registry information in <!post=MaryJ's StarPost,95584>MaryJ's StarPost<!/post> is set and valid.
