    Weeding out duplicates (Excel 2003)

I need to do a CountIF formula, and I'm not sure if it's possible. I have a list of patients, and status, for each month of 2005. Ultimately, I want the CountIf to check where status = X and count that patient if the criteria is true. Problem is, since this report is broken down by month, and some patient stays span several months, I'm getting duplicate entries. Is there anyway to weed out duplicate patient entries?

    Thanks - Sat.

You can use Data | Filter | Advanced Filter to create a list of unique patients, if you don't have one yet, then use a combination of COUNTIF formulas. See attached example.
