Open a file from an outlook form (Outlook 2000)

Is there a way in outlook to open files from a button in a form?

I ask because i would like to place a excel template in 1 folder so that I can update it and not have to tell people when I update it.

I was thinking to simply place the excel file in a folder under public folders.

then from a another folder where all the scheduled items are, click on an item which opens a form and click on the open workbook button, which would navigate in the background to the folder which holds my excel file > opens it and runs a macro?

this might be far fetched but I would like to know if any one has seen this done?

Re: Open a file from an outlook form (Outlook 2000)

I'm not an expert in Public Folder operations, but through Outlook 2003 I don't believe it's possible to open an attachment in a Public Folder because within VBA there isn't a method to directly open an attachment to an Outlook Item (it will be nice if they add a method for that in Office 2007).

You should be able to use a coded button or a URL to open a file on a server, rather than in Public Folders.
