    Clear TOC References (Word 2007)

I'm struggling (like many I suppose) to learn the new Office 2007 command locations. We have been using Word 2000 and 2002, but would like to migrate to Office 2007. One of the features of our documents is a fairly large Table of Contents that we have always created using TC codes for the various section headers and then developing the Table of Contents using the TOC Field. I notice in Word 2007 that it can create a Table of Contects using References; I suspect this feature has been around for awhile. When I try this trick a Table of Contents is created with all sorts of text references that don't belong there. I have found that if I follow the procedure to create references that works. What I need to do is clear all references and create new ones. Hoping to end up with an appropriate Table of Contents.

I'm wondering if anyone has an idea on how to clear all references and then create the appropriate references.

    We need your Office 2007 book Woody!! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Thanks a lot for any thoughts.

Re: Clear TOC References (Word 2007)

In earlier versions of Word, I would have interpreted "references" to refer to {REF} fields. Can you see whether that is what Word 2007 is picking up? Press Alt+F9 (traditionally) to reveal field codes, and to toggle back to field results.
